My grand mother and my mother use to make this stew so as you can see the Beef Stew was a real family favourite.

Beef Stew Ingredients

1 tsp salt
6 carrots sliced
1 Tbs cold water
4 Tbs oil for frying
1 tsp black pepper
1 Tbs garlic powder
3 stalks celery sliced
3 Tbs all purpose flour
2 lb beef chuck cubed
12 small boiling onions
1/2 cup all purpose flour
3 x 10.5 oz cans beef broth
6 large potatoes peeled and diced

Beef Stew Method

In a large pot heat oil over medium high heat. In a resealable plastic bag mix together the flour, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Add a small handfull of meat at a time and shake until well coated and then brown in hot oil, about 1 minute per side. Remove the browned meat and continue until all the meat is browned. Lower heat to medium and add onions and cook till brown on both sides about 3 minutes per side then remove from pot and set aside. Drain excess fat from pot. Now to the pot add potatoes, carrots, celery, reserved onions, browned meat and broth. Stir all together and bring to a boil.
