FRUIT BREAD RECIPE

This recipe will teach you how to make Fruit Bread. It is a quick and easy recipe to make. Fruit Bread is a very nourishing bread recipe. It is so full of different fruit. the flavours of figs, prunes, dates, raisins, currants, candied lemon and orange peels and almonds makes the Fruit Bread taste fantastic.

Fruit Bread Ingredients

1 lb figs
1 lb dates
1 lb prunes
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cloves
2 yeast cakes
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 tsp cinnamon
4 1/2 cup sifted flour
1/4 cup dried currants
1 Tbs chopped candied citron
1 Tbs chopped candied lemon peel
1/4 cup chopped blanched almonds
1 Tbs chopped candied orange peel


Fruit Bread Method

In just enough water to cover soak prunes and figs for 1 hour then add the dates and cook gently in the same water for 20 minutes. Remove fruit then chop and mix with other fruits and nuts. Reduce liquid to 3/4 cup and cool to lukewarm and add yeast and stir until well blended. Add 2 cups flour beating well and let rise until light and spongy. Add spices, salt, fruit mixture and remaining flour to make a stiff dough then knead until smooth. Let rise until doubled in bulk. Shape into oval loaves and brush with slightly sweetened milk and sprinkle with split almonds. Let rise again and bake the Fruit Bread in a 425 degree oven for 45 minutes. This ammount of mixture makes 3 loaves.
