HARICOT PIE RECIPE
This recipe
will teach you how to make Haricot Pie. It is an easy recipe
to make. The flavours of the minced steak, peas, carrot,
parsnip onion mixed with the rest of the ingredience and
then topped with the pastry and sprinkled with grated cheese
makes the taste of this pie exceptional.

Pie Ingredients
For the
Filling:
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup water
1/4 tsp pepper
2 Tbs plain flour
1/4 cup bacon fat
1 1/2 lb finely minced steak
1/2 cup cooked green peas
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup sliced cooked carrot
1/2 cup sliced cooked parsnip
For the Topping
1 egg yolk
1 Tbs water
pinch of salt
2 oz shortening
1 cup plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 Tbs grated cheese

Pie Method
Melt the bacon fat for the
filling in a saucepan and add the onion and cook until
golden then take out 1 tablespoonful and put aside for the
topping. Place the steak into the pan in which the onion was
cooked. Add the salt, pepper and plain flour and cook
stirring well over medium heat until the meat changes
colour. Add the water and stir untill the mixture comes to
the boil. Lower the heat then cover and simmer for about 30
minutes. Stir in the peas, carrot and parsnips and allow the
mixture to cool.
Sift the dry ingredients
together for the topping, rub in the shortening and add the
reserved tablespoonful of chopped onion. Beat the egg yolk
with the water and stir into the mixture making a firm
dough. Knead on a floured board until smooth. Place the cold
cooked meat and vegetable mixture in a pie dish. Roll the
pastry to fit the top of the Haricot Pie. Trim the edges and
glaze the top of the Haricot Pie with milk then sprinkle
with the grated cheese. Make a few slits in the crust of the
Haricot Pie to allow the steam to escape. Bake the Haricot
Pie in a hot oven 425 degrees for about 20 minutes.
